No. 3 S. River tops No. 13 Broadneck, 4-2

Maia Cheeks and Sarah King have scored some big goals for the South River field hockey team this year.

None were bigger than the two the pair scored in a two-minute span on Monday night.

Cheeks scored the tying goal with 9:48 left in the game, and King scored on a penalty stroke two minutes later to help the No. 3 Seahawks earn a 4-2 win over No. 13 Broadneck (10-6) in the Class 4A East Region Section II final.

South River (15-1-1) advances to the region final, where it will host No. 8 Severna Park, the three-time defending state champion, on Wednesday. The Seahawks are going for their seventh region title and first since 2012, when they won their fourth state title.

NO. 8 SEVERNA PARK 1, ARUNDEL 0: Alex Miller scored with11:30 left in the first half to lead the Falcons (10-4-2) over the Wildcats (9-7) in the Class 4A East Region Section I final at Kinder Park.

NO. 15 LIBERTY 1, SOUTH CARROLL 0, OT: Abbie Busch scored on a penalty stroke with 7:41left in overtime to lift the host Lions (13-2) over the Cavaliers (9-7) in a Class 1A West semifinal.

Liberty will face Francis Scott Key in the final Wednesday.

MANCHESTER VALLEY 1, MIDDLETOWN 0, 2OT: Mackenzie Poist scored in the second overtime period to lead the Mavericks over the visiting Knights in the Class 2A West Section 1 final.

Man Valley faces Poolesvill­e in the Class 2A West region final Wednesday.

OLD MILL 3, NORTH COUNTY 0: Rachel Fontz scored twice to lead the visiting Patriots (8-6) to victory over the top-seeded Knights (7-6) in the Class 4A North Region Section II final.

Old Mill will face No. 12 Dulaney in the 4A North Region final Wednesday.

NO. 5 MCDONOGH 3, ST. MARY’S 0: Blake Cunneen, Andie Aldave and Allie Weiner scored to lead the host Eagles (13-4) to a win over the Saints (4-9-1) in an Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland AConferenc­e quarterfin­al.

McDonoghwi­ll face No. 2Archbisho­p Spalding in a semifinal Wednesday.

MOUNT DE SALES 2, GLENELG COUNTRY 0: Sam Dinoto and Libby Rehkemper scored to lift the host Sailors (14-5) over the Dragons (6-6) in an IAAM B Conference quarterfin­al.

Mount de Sales will face John Carroll in a semifinal Wednesday.

ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN 1, SEVERN0: Maggie Stallings scored with 10 minutes left in regulation and Kaleigh Kotula made seven saves, including fending off a pair of penalty corners, as the host Eagles (11-4) beat the Admirals (9-6-1) in an IAAM B Conference quarterfin­al. AACS will travel to No. 14 Maryvale for a semifinal Wednesday.
