Free throws help Towson in win

UMBC’s 3-game win streak ends

William Arnaud Adala Moto made five of six free throws in the final 11 seconds, the last two coming with three seconds left to give host Towson a 69-65 win over Hofstra on Thursday night.

Adala Moto finished with 11 points, Deshaun Morman had 13 and Mike Morsell 12 for the Tigers (16-10, 8-5 Colonial Athletic Association), who made 11 of 14 free throws in the second half, eight of 10 in the final 32 seconds.

Justin Wright-Foreman led Hofstra (12-14, 4-9) with 29 points, 15 in the first half when the Pride took a 36-29 lead. He opened the second half with a 3pointer before Towson scored 12 straight, the last five by Morsell, and the game stayed tight the rest of the way.

The Tigers had a 45-33 rebounding advantage to offset shooting 3-for-20 from 3point range. Hofstra made 10 3s but was 3-for-15 in the second half, when the Pride was also just 10 of 19 from the line.

HARTFORD 84, UMBC 77: Jalen Ross had 28 points, J.R. Lynch added 18 and the visiting Hawks (6-19, 1-9 America East) scored 53 in the second half to overcome a 13-point deficit and beat the Retrievers (16-8, 7-4).

Hartford trailed by seven at the 10-minute mark and went on a 20-4 run to lead 73-64 on Ross’ layup with 1:59 left.

K.J. Maura’s 3-pointer pulled UMBC within 77-73, but the Hawks closed it out by making seven of eight at the foul line with Lynch hitting all six of his attempts in the final 23 seconds.

Jason Dunne added 12 points and Jack Hobbs had 11 points and nine rebounds for Hartford, which ended a s even- game l osing streak.

Maura had a careerhigh 24 points for the Retrievers. Will Darley (Dulaney) added 22 points, Joe Sherburne scored 11 and Jairus Lyles 10. The Retrievers had won three straight games.

MOUNT ST. MARY’S 74, ROBERT MORRIS 70: Junior Robinson had a career-high 28 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark as the Mountaineers (1313, 11-2 Northeast Conference) beat the host Colonials (9-17, 5-8).

Robinson went 8for-14 from the field and 9-for-11 from the line to go along with a trio of 3-pointers for his career night, edging his previous career high of 26 points set last season against Sacred Heart. Robinson became the 47th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points with a layup midway through the second half.

Greg Alexander also hit three from long range, accumulating 11 points and a career-best seven rebounds, while Miles Wilson (Mount Saint Joseph) and Elijah Long (John Carroll) helped pace the Mount with nine points apiece.
