WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals promoted Victor Robles from Double-A Harrisburg on Thursday, leaving the top prospect speechless.

The 20-year-old Robles hit .300 with 10 homers, 47 RBIs and 27 steals in 114 games over two minor league stops this season. The outfielder signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in July 2013.

Robles thought his next competitive baseball would come during the Arizona Fall League, but he found himself in Washington for the start of a four-game series against Philadelphia.

“I just couldn't get any words out of my mouth,” Robles said through an interpreter when asked about his reaction to the promotion. “It was just hard to talk at all.”

The Nationals also recalled outfielders Rafael Bautista and Andrew Stevenson from Triple-A Syracuse, and transferred right-hander Erick Fedde to the 60-day disabled list. Robles, whoplayed for the World team in this year's All-Star Futures Game, was not in the starting lineup against the Phillies.

Manager Dusty Baker said outfielder Brian Goodwin's setback in his recovery from a groin strain played a role in Robles' call-up. Baker last saw Robles during spring training. “He came over. He wasn't intimidated at all,” Baker said. “He was actually one of the leaders of the young Latin corps that we had there.

“There's some fundamental things that he needs to learn, like some baserunning, throwing to the right base, different things. That's what we're here for, to teach him. Hopefully he's a quick learner, which I think he is. He's a tremendous talent.”

Baker said Goodwin could miss the remainder of the season. The 26-year-old Goodwin is batting .251 with 13 homers and 30 RBIs in 74 games.

Fedde was placed on the10-day disabled list on Monday with a right forearm flexor strain. The 24-year-old right-hander made his major league debut in July and went 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA in three starts with Washington.
