Moeller lifts UMBC over Mount St. Mary’s, 9-8

DeMase, Kenul, Ibello lead Hopkins past Loyola, 14-11

Sara Moeller (St. Paul’s) scored the go-ahead goal with 35 seconds left to play as visiting UMBC won, 9-8, over Mount St. Mary’s in women’s lacrosse Wednesday.

The Retrievers (2-0) built a 5-1 lead in the first half before the Mountainee­rs (1-1) rallied in the second half. Mount St. Mary’s Taylor Carhart (Manchester Valley) capped a 3-0 run with the tying goal, 8-8, with 2:03 left in the game.

Moeller finished with a hat trick. Carolyn Jamison (Westminste­r) added two goals and two assists for the Retrievers.

Alayna Pagnotta (Glenelg) and Carly Miller (Marriotts Ridge) each scored two goals for the Mount.

JOHNS HOPKINS 14, LOYOLA MARYLAND 11: Nicole DeMase, Emily Kenul and Miranda Ibello (Maryvale) each had a hat trick to lead host Blue Jays (3-0) past the Greyhounds (0-1).

Johns Hopkins took a 6-3 lead in the first half before Loyola matched them goal for goal in the second half.

Hannah Savage had three goals and one assist and Hannah Powers added four assists for Loyola.

NO. 3 BOSTON COLLEGE 16, NO. 19 MASSACHUSE­TTS 9: Sam Apuzzo and Dempsey Arsenault each scored four goals to help the host Eagles (4-0) over the Minutewome­n (1-1). Boston College led 11-5 at halftime.

NO. 15 PENN STATE 19, DUQUESNE 8: Sophia Triandafil­s scored a game-high four goals to lead the Nittany Lions (2-1) past the visiting Dukes (0-2). Penn State opened with a 6-0 run, during which Triandafil­s had a natural hat trick.

NO. 16 VIRGINIA15, RICHMOND 7: Kasey Behr and Sammy Mueller each scored four goals to help the host Cavaliers (2-0) defeat the visiting Spiders (2-1). Virginia led 8-2 at halftime.
