Red Sox: Mookie Betts belted three solo homers and J.D. Martinez also went deep, powering a 5-4 victory over the Royals. It was the fourth three-homer game for the 25-year- old Betts, who snapped a tie with Hall of Famer Ted Williams for most threehomer games in franchise history. He also became the first player in major-league history with four three-homer games before turning 26, according to STATS.
Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto may meet with specialist Dr. James Andrews on the team’s upcoming road trip to get his sore pitching elbow evaluated. Cueto, who leads the majors with a 0.84 ERA, was placed on the disabled list Tuesday night with inflammation in his right elbow. Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged that Cueto had been pitching with soreness in his previous two starts. ... RF Andrew McCutchen left in the third inning of a 7-3 win over the Padres after getting hit in the back of his elbow by a pitch. X-rays were negative.
Nationals: Bryce Harper hit a leadoff homer and drove in three and Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 over seven innings in a 9-3 victory over the Pirates.
Cardinals: RHP Carlos Martinez broke a scoreless tie with his first major-league homer and allowed one run on five hits over 7 innings in a 3-2 victory over the White Sox.
Twins: RHP Fernando Romero carried a shutout into the sixth inning of his major-league debut — a 4-0 win over the Blue Jays and gave the Twins just their second win in 13 games.
Brewers: LHP Wade Miley allowed one run on three hits in six innings in his season debut — a 3-1 win over the Reds after his contract was selected from Double-A Biloxi.
Mets: LHP Jacob deGrom was pulled after four shutout innings with a hyperextended right elbow before the Braves pulled away for a 4-0 victory.
Braves: SS Dansby Swanson left in the sixth inning against the Mets for precautionary reasons with a sore left wrist.
