Angels: Shohei Ohtani made his ninth major-league start on the mound late Wednesday against the Royals. Back on his usual once-a-week pitching schedule, the two-way rookie was 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA. ... SS Andrelton Simmons went on the DL with a sprained right ankle. Utility player Kaleb Cowart was recalled.

Pirates: Josh Harrison had a bases-clearing double and David Freese and Gregory Polanco drove in two runs each in an 11-9 victory over the Dodgers. Corey Dickerson had three hits and scored four times. Matt Kemp drove in five runs for the Dodgers, whose five-game winning streak ended.

Giants: Alen Hanson’s pinch two-run homer with two outs in the ninth tied it before Brandon Crawford singled home the winning run in the 10th as the Giants beat the Diamondbac­ks 5-4 for their sixth win in seven games. Paul Goldschmid­t had three doubles among four hits for the D’backs, who had been 29-0 when leading after eight.

Nationals: Anthony Rendon had four hits and drove in three runs to spark an 11-2 rout of the Rays. Michael A. Taylor had three hits and three RBIs for the Nats, who have won 11 of 15. The Rays’ Jonny Venters lasted six batters, giving up five runs, in his first career start. The Rays have lost six straight.

Indians: Carlos Carrasco struck out 10 and allowed one run in seven innings in a 3-1 win over the Brewers. Jose Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run, and Cody Allen got the final four outs for his 11th save. The Brewers have lost three straight for the first time since April.

Red Sox: Andrew Benintendi and Christian Vazquez each hit a solo homer and had an RBI double in a 7-1 win over the Tigers. The Red Sox won their fourth straight.

Diamondbac­ks: OF Jon Jay was acquired from the Royals for two minor-league pitchers. The career .290 hitter provides experience with A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. on the DL.
