AROUND THE HORN

-

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw is scheduled make a minorleague rehab start Saturday as he continues his recovery from a strained lower back. According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Kershaw will be limited to four innings and 60 pitches when he returns to the mound with Triple-A Oklahoma City at Omaha. If the outing goes well, Roberts hopes Kershaw’s next appearance would be with the Dodgers. ... Kyle Farmer’s pinchhit double with two outs in the ninth inning drove in two runs and helped the Dodgers rally to edge the Cubs 4-3 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. Entering the game, Farmer was hitting .226 but was 5-for-15 as a pinch hitter.

Mets: OF Jay Bruce was placed on the disabled list because of continued hip soreness. Bruce, who has been battling hip, back and foot issues in recent weeks, had missed four of the team’s last five games. He’s batting .212 and hasn’t homered since May 7, a span of 113 plate appearances.

Brewers: LHP Boone Logan was designated for assignment to make roster room for rookie RHP Freddy Peralta. Logan was 1-0 with a 5.91 ERA and had difficulty getting left-handed batters out, as they went 9-for-22 against him with five extra-base hits.

Cardinals: RHP Greg Holland, who hasn’t pitched since May 25 because of a right hip impinge- ment, was activated and RHP Matt Bowman was put on the 10-day DL with blisters on his pitching hand. While with the Rockies in 2017, Holland tied for the National League lead in saves with 41.

Nationals: INF Matt Adams went on the 10-day DL with a fractured left index finger, a move made retroactive to Saturday. In addition, the Nationals optioned RHP Wander Suero to Triple-A Syracuse and brought up RHP Jefry Rodriguez from Double-A Harrisburg.

Orioles: INF Pedro Alvarez, who was hitting .181 in 45 games, was designated for assignment and C Caleb Joseph was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
