Annapolis Hawks win showcase tournament

Coach Tom Ripley has led the Annapolis Hawks Class of 2022 squad to a pair of runner-up results at major tournament­s this summer. The Hawks picked a perfect time to finally break through. Midfielder Michael Weisshaar scored four goals to lead the Hawks to an 11-10 victory over Duke’s Elite in the 2022 championsh­ip game of the Naptown National Challenge, held Wednesday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Weisshaar, who will be a freshman at Archbishop Spalding in the fall, had a bunch of ground balls off faceoffs and also had an assist in being named the RBC Wealth Management Player of the Game. Zack Oehlerking scored two goals for the Hawks while fellow attackman Race Ripley had three assists. Gavin Kelly, the other starter on attack, contribute­d a goal and an assist. The Hawks had previously finished as runner-up at the North American Lacrosse Summer Invitation­al in New Castle, Delaware and the Crab Feast Tournament at Goucher College. CAMPS: Calvert Hall is hosting two youth boys lacrosse camps in July. The Junior Cardinal Lax Camp for rising second graders through rising fifth graders will take place from Monday to July 19. Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Mount St. Mary’s, has also played profession­ally with the Baltimore Ride of the United Women’s Lacrosse League and the Baltimore Brave of the Women’s Profession­al Lacrosse League. ... Georgetown coach Ricky Fried (UMBC) was named to the Intercolle­giate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associatio­n’s Board of Directors last week. He will serve as the organizati­on’s vice president. Fried, who just completed his 15th season at Georgetown, previously served the IWLCA as treasurer.
