United States roars past Iroquois in first game

Team USA turned in a big sec­ond half to se­cure a 17-9 tri­umph over the Iroquois Na­tion­als on the open­ing day of the Fed­er­a­tion of In­ter­na­tional Lacrosse World Cham­pi­onship. The United States fell be­hind 3-0 early and trailed 7-5 at the half. Af­ter re­group­ing, Rob Pan­nell and the United States took com­mand right away in the sec­ond half with a pair of unan­swered goals to tie it 7-7. Ryan Brown (Calvert Hall, Johns Hop­kins) gave them their first lead and the U.S. rolled through the third and fourth quar­ters. Brown fin­ished with four goals and Pan­nell had three goals and four as­sists. Trevor Bap­tiste won 17 of 19 face­offs for the U.S. Lyle Thomp­son led the Iroquois with a hat trick. The United States is back in ac­tion Satur­day against Aus­tralia. Face­off is set for 7:30 a.m. and the game will be broad­cast on ESPNU.
