United States roars past Iroquois in first game
Team USA turned in a big second half to secure a 17-9 triumph over the Iroquois Nationals on the opening day of the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship. The United States fell behind 3-0 early and trailed 7-5 at the half. After regrouping, Rob Pannell and the United States took command right away in the second half with a pair of unanswered goals to tie it 7-7. Ryan Brown (Calvert Hall, Johns Hopkins) gave them their first lead and the U.S. rolled through the third and fourth quarters. Brown finished with four goals and Pannell had three goals and four assists. Trevor Baptiste won 17 of 19 faceoffs for the U.S. Lyle Thompson led the Iroquois with a hat trick. The United States is back in action Saturday against Australia. Faceoff is set for 7:30 a.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
