Harvey B. Weeks Jr., purchasing agent

Harvey B. Weeks Jr., a retired Noxell Corp. purchasing agent who also worked for McCormick & Co. and was a diehard Baltimore Colts fan, died Sunday at his Glen Arm home from gall bladder cancer. He was 91.

The son of Harvey B. Weeks Sr., an insurance agent, and Rita Matteson Weeks, a homemaker, Harvey Buck Weeks Jr. was born in West Graham, Va., and raised in Hinton, W.Va.

He graduated from high school and was 16 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, family members said. He held the rank of private and served from 1943 to 1946 as a clerk typist.

After World War II, he served five years in the Navy Reserve.

Mr. Weeks obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1950 in industrial management from the University of Baltimore. In1972 he received a law degree, also from the university.

He began his business career in the early 1950s in the coal mining industry in Kimball, W.Va., and in 1954 went to work as an engineer at the Army Chemical Center at Edgewood Arsenal.

In 1956, he joined McCormick & Co., then in downtown Baltimore, as a packaging engineer and purchasing agent. From 1966 until retiring in 1981, he was purchasing agent for Noxell Corp. in Hunt Valley.

Mr. Weeks held a private pilot’s license, and was a member and a past commander of the Parkville Composite Squadron of the Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He also had served as commander of Group One of the Maryland Wing Civil Air Patrol.

He had been active with the Boy Scouts of America as a merit badge counselor.

Mr. Weeks was an inveterate Colts fan, and was a member and board member of the Quarterback Club and a member and board chairman of Colts Corral No. 1. He was also a member of the Colts Associates, where he served as chairman of Colts Night in 1966, which benefited the Boys Club. Plans for services are incomplete. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Sharon Algire; two sons, Harvey B. Weeks III of Woodbine and William Silas Weeks of Maineville, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
