‘Code Red’ heat advisory in effect today
Hot, humid air is flowing into the Baltimore region this week, bringing high temperatures into the mid-90s and a heat index in excess of 100 degrees at times. Temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-90s today and Wednesday. With the humidity, it’s forecast to feel like the lower 100s today and Wednesday, and Baltimore Health Commissioner Leana Wen declared a “Code Red” heat alert for both days. The city announced that it would open the Northern, Southern, Northwest and Southeast community action partnership centers as cooling centers today and Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Heat in the lower 90s is fore- cast to continue into Thursday, before a cold front passes through, likely bringing storms. Rain and storms and highs in the lower 80s are forecast Friday. The region has not actually hit triple- digit temperatures this summer, coming 1 degree away from 100 degrees on July 3. BWI has reached 100 degrees only once in the past six years. swimmer just after 11 a.m., in a northern section of the reservoir near Pot Spring Road. Rescue teams from a Baltimore County Fire Department station in Texas and the Kingsville Volunteer Fire Co. responded, county fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost said. She did not immediately know what time the first units arrived. A dive team from Gamber & Community Fire Company in Carroll County assisted in searching for the man’s body, fire officials said. By mid-afternoon, crews had not found the man and officials “are assuming this is now a drowning,” Armacost said. County fire officials turned the search over to Baltimore Police Department’s Marine Unit at about 2:20 p.m., according to the county.
