Jaleel Scott’s season ended before it really began.

The rookie wide receiver, the Ravens’ final draft selection of three in the fourth round in April, was placed on injured reserve, the team announced Monday.

Although Scott was not reported to be dealing with an injury, he did not play in Saturday night’s 27-10 victory at the Miami Dolphins. After Monday’s practice, coach John Harbaugh said Scott was beset by “a really serious hamstring.”

At 6 feet 5, the 210-pound Scott was the tallest wide receiver on the roster and viewed as a potential red-zone target. But the former New Mexico State standout seemed to struggle in his transition to the professional level, catching only one pass for 9 yards on five targets in the preseason. After playing 59 snaps on offense in the first two preseason games against the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams, Scott played only three snaps against the Indianapolis Colts.

Scott’s move to injured reserve provides a little roster relief for a crowded position. While Michael Crabtree, John Brown, Willie Snead IV and Chris Moore are locks to make the active roster, Tim White, Breshad Perriman, DeVier Posey and rookies Jordan Lasley, Janarion Grant and Andre Levrone are competing for one or two coveted spots.

The team re-signed cornerback Robertson Daniel to fill the spot previously occupied by Scott. Daniel has spent time on the active roster and practice squad in each of the previous two seasons before being waived May 3. White ready to be playmaker: Through the Ravens’ first three preseason games, White had caught only two passes for 20 yards. That changed Saturday night when the wide receiver had three receptions for 70 yards.

White now trails only Perriman’s 112 yards for the team lead in receiving yards. But the second-year pro from Arizona State said he has never doubted his ability to contribute on offense.

“I just want to go out there and do what I have to do and perform the way that I could,” he said after Monday afternoon’s practice. “I believe in myself. I believe that I am a playmaker, and I believe I can come out here each and every game and make plays. That’s just in my mindset. So I just try to take that out there with me each and every single time.” Injury updates: Offensive tackles Ronnie Stanley (right knee strain) and James Hurst (undisclosed) returned to practice Monday, although they were not on the field at the end of the session. The duo did not practice Wednesday and Thursday and did not play Saturday. … The team practiced without safeties Bennett Jackson (undisclosed) and rookie DeShon Elliott (fractured left forearm), cornerback Maurice Canady (muscle strain), defensive tackle Willie Henry (umbilical hernia surgery) and three rookies in tight end Hayden Hurst (stress fracture in foot), inside linebacker Alvin Jones (unspecified) and offensive tackle Greg Senat (right foot).
