Kenneth A. Augustin, industrial engineer

Kenneth Anton Augustin, a former longtime Westinghouse/CGR Medical Corp. industrial engineer who later became a partner in Medical Imaging Services, died Friday from cancer at his Columbia home. He was 88.

He was born and raised in St. Louis, the son of Anton Augustin, a commercial artist for the St. Louis Globe newspaper, and Blanche Augustin, a homemaker.

He was a 1952 graduate of St. Louis University Preparatory School and received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1956 from Washington University in St. Louis. In 1982, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from the Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Augustin served as an Army lieutenant in Korea from 1957 until 1958.

He went to work in 1959 as an industrial engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Kansas City, and later Baltimore.

He joined Westinghouse/CGR Medical Corp. and held numerous engineering and sales positions.

He left the company in 1985 when he became a partner in Medical Imaging Services. After that company was acquired by Standard Medical in 1996 he remained working as a product specialist until retiring in 2003, but continued to work as a commercial radiology consultant to various companies. Mr. Augustin was a communicant and volunteer at St. Paul Catholic Church in Ellicott City. He enjoyed playing tennis and taking spinning classes.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Augustin will be offered at 11 a.m. today at his church, 3755 St. Paul St., Ellicott City.

Mr. Augustine is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Ann Wetzstein; seven sons, Kenneth Augustin of Columbia, Michael Augustin of Rockville, Donald Augustin and Matthew Augustin, both of Sykesville, William Augustin of Towson, Stephen Augustin San Diego and Thomas Augustin of Monrovia, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Augustin of Towson and Elizabeth Milligan of Ellicott City; and 13 grandchildren.
