Baltimore Sun

The Sun’s shabby tribute to McCain

- Patrick Walsh, Linthicum

Well, The Baltimore Sun editorial staff just had to do it. In its tribute to John McCain, possibly the least partisan politician in this modern era, The Sun had to make it all about partisanship (“Not for self, but country: The heroic life of John Sidney McCain III,” Aug. 26). The last one third of the editorial was not about Senator McCain and why he will be missed. Instead, The Sun wrote of the perceived partisanship of President Donald Trump and displayed The Sun’s own character by ignoring the partisanship on the other side and thus making clear its own constant bias.

The Sun showed the same lack of restraint it so often sees in President Trump. The Sun wrote, “Ideally, we would offer these words of tribute without mentioning the name of the current president…”and, then, they had to mention Mr. Trump and from then on. John McCain deserved better. How Trump-like of the Sun.
