AROUND THE HORN

-

Indians: Andrew Miller’s startand-stop season has been disrupted again. The Indians placed the reliever on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder soreness, an injury the AL Central leaders hope gets better in time for the postseason. Manager Terry Francona said Miller complained about his shoulder Tuesday and, after consulting with the team’s medical staff, received a cortisone injection. Francona said there’s no timetable on when the 32-year-old will pitch again.

Royals: 1B Lucas Duda was traded to the Braves for cash considerations after the Royals’ 9-2 victory against the Tigers. Duda signed a $3.5 million, oneyear deal to take over for de- parted first baseman Eric Hosmer this season. But despite showing flashes of power, he hit just .242 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs in 87 games.

Angels: Albert Pujols is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Recovery time is typically at least six weeks. Pujols is batting .245 with 19 homers and 64 RBIs for the Angels, who are all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff race for the sixth time in his first seven seasons with the club. Pujols also has played extensively at first base this season after the arrival of designated hitter Shohei Ohtani. The three-time NL MVP will be 39 years old when next season begins. He still has three seasons remaining on his 10-year, $240 million contract.

Red Sox: Mookie Betts homered and had a two-run double in an 11-run seventh inning as the Red Sox rallied for a 14-6 victory over the Marlins, but their hottest pitcher, David Price, was knocked out with a bruised left wrist. The 33-year-old lefty exited in the fourth after being struck by a line drive off the bat of Austin Dean on the final play of the previous inning. X-rays were negative, and the team said further testing would be done as needed. Price has been the team’s best pitcher since the All-Star break, going 4-0 with a 1.09 ERA in six starts before Wednesday.
