A boat struck a piling on the Magothy River on Thursday night, seriously injuring one of the two people on board, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The Fire Department responded to a 911 call around 10:15 p.m. to find the boat on the river in the area around Inverness and Riverdale roads. The caller said he observed a boat pass by him at a high rate of speed and then heard a collision, according to a news release from the department. Paramedics treated a 40-year-old man who was on the boat and asked for a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter, which landed at Lake Waterford Park, the release said. The man was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with injuries that were serious but not believed to be life-threatening. The second person on the boat was evaluated at the scene by paramedics but declined treatment and transportation to the hospital, the release said.
