Yankees: The playoff-contending Yankees acquired former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen from the Giants for two prospects. McCutchen, 31, is hitting .255 with 15 home runs, 55 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. His .357 on-base percentage trails only that of Aaron Judge (.398) and Aaron Hicks (.365) among qualified Yankees. He was a five-time All-Star with the Pirates and the 2013 NL MVP. ... Manager Aaron Boone said before Friday’s 7-5 win over the visiting Tigers that he’s “optimistic” Judge will return a broken right wrist before the end of the regular season. He’s been out since July 26.

Dodgers: The Dodgers bolstered their bullpen, acquiring RHP Ryan Madson from the Nationals for a minor-league pitcher. Madson was 5-5 with five saves and a 4.08 ERA in 69 games for the Nationals. The 38-year-old recently came off the DL after being sidelined by nerve irritation in his neck and back.

A’s: The Athletics acquired right-handed reliever Cory Gearrin from the Rangers in exchange for two minor-leaguers. Gearrin, 32, is 2-1 with a save and a 3.51 ERA in 56 appearance­s for the Giants and Rangers this season. The A’s made several moves for relievers in recent weeks, including Jeurys Familia, Fernando Rodney and Shawn Kelley.

Brewers: The Brewers acquired left-handed reliever Xavi- er Cedeno from the White Sox for two minor leaguers. Cedeno, 32, is 2-0 with a save and a 2.84 ERA in 33 appearance­s. ... Jhoulys Chacin pitched into the seventh inning, Travis Shaw hit a two-run homer and the Brewers beat the host Nationals 4-1.

Cubs: 3B Kris Bryant and SS Addison Russell were expected to be activated from the DL before Saturday’s game vs. the Phillies. Bryant, who has been on the DLsince July 26 with left shoulder inflammati­on, is expected to start. ... OF Jason Heyward sat out Friday night 2-1 loss to the Phillies and likely will miss at least another game after leaving Thursday’s win over the Braves with hamstring tightness.
