Rays: Blake Snell tied for the major-league victory lead with his 18th, and Nick Ciuffo and Kevin Kiermaier hit early threerun homers in the Rays’ 14-2 rout of the Orioles. Snell (18-5) matched the Indians’ Corey Kluber for the major-league lead in wins after allowing two runs, five hits and striking out nine over 51⁄ innings. Tommy Pham had a fifth-inning solo homer and JiMan Choi hit a grand slam in the sixth to help the Rays run their home winning streak to nine. They have won 14 of 17 overall. The loss gave the Orioles their 100th loss against 41 victories.

RedSox: Dustin Pedroia is back in the clubhouse, but the second baseman won’t be playing for the rest of the season. Manager Alex Cora said Pedroia has been officially shut down for 2018. Cora revealed the 35-year-old veteran had an additional arthroscopic surgery on his left knee while rehabbing in Arizona in July to clean up some scar tissue. Pedroia had two initial procedures on the knee last October.

Reds: Homer Bailey was dropped from the rotation, leaving the team’s highest-paid pitcher with no role for the rest of a disappointing season. Bailey is 1-14 with a 6.09 ERA and has lost nine straight decisions. The Reds are 1-19 in his starts this season, the fourth in a row that he’s been injured. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said rookie Tyler Mahle will take Bailey’s place in the rotation.

Yankees: SS Didi Gregorius was activated from the disabled list. He wasn’t in the starting lineup Friday, with recently acquired Adeiny Hechavarria at shortstop and batting eighth. “We’ll ease him back in,” manager Aaron Boone said. Gregorius suffered a bruised left heel Aug. 19 and missed 16 games.

White Sox: Top pitching prospect Michael Kopech has an injured right elbow and probably will need Tommy John surgery that will sideline him through the 2019 season. The 22-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Aug. 21 and made four starts, going 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA.
