Loyola completes triumph with half the work

Dons stop Boys’ Latin in shortened football game; Severna Park stays on roll

Loyola Blakefield only played one half against visiting Boys’ Latin, but it was enough. The Dons won their home-opener, 24-0, in a weather-shortened game on Friday.

Loyola (1-0) was declared the winner at halftime and the Lakers fell to 0-2. Dons’ Caleb Sanders went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts and 1-for-1 on field goals.

Previously, Boys’ Latin fell 34-14 to Liberty on Sept. 1. Loyola’s game on August 31 versus Fort Hill was halted by weather and declared a no-contest. The prior meeting between the Dons and Sentinels was in 1967.

Loyola Blakefield is playing as an independen­t.

TUSCARORA AT ARCHBISHOP CURLEY, PPD.: The game between the Titans (0-1) and Friars (0-1) went into a weather delay. With no score, Tuscarora had driven to the Curley two-yard line with 8:38 in the first quarter. Previously, Curley lost to Linganore, 45-7, on Aug. 30.

AVALON AT SEVERN: The game between the Black Knights (1-0) and the host Admirals (0-1) was suspended with 1:38 left in the first half. The game will not be finished. Severn lost 21-9 to Annapolis Area Christian on Aug. 30. Rams (2-0) led by Katie Figinski with a hat trick, scored six of their seven goals in the first half and shut out the Panthers (0-2).

MARYVALE 2, GLENELG COUNTRY 1: Audrey Allan scored both goals, including the go-ahead on a penalty kick in the 26th minute of the second half, to lift the host Lions (1-2) over the Dragons (0-2).

Field hockey

ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN 10, CATHOLIC 0: Sydney White scored four goals, while Maggie Stallings and McKenna Stinau each scored a pair as the host Eagles (2-0) defeated the Cubs (0-1). Kylie Fenn had a goal and an assist, Lexi Steele scored and Abigail Boyer had an assist for AACS. The game was suspended due to lightning.

DELMAR (DEL.) 1, SOUTH RIVER 0: Kaityln Wallace stopped six shots, but the Seahawks (1-1) were downed by the Wildcats (1-0). The Seahawks put seven shots on net in the first half, but couldn't find a way past Delmar’s Kelly Davis in goal. The game was suspended at halftime due to lightning.
