Caroline Welle, Severna Park, field hockey
A reserve in her first varsity season last year, the senior forward earned a starting position for the No. 2 Falcons this fall and made an immediate impact at Chesapeake-AA’s Cougar Invitational on Saturday. In helping the Falcons get off to a 2-0 start, Welle scored four goals on the day. She scored once in a 3-1 win over No. 3 Archbishop Spalding to open the season and had a three-goal game as the Falcons beat Camden Catholic (N.J.), 6-0. Severna Park first-year coach Sannon Garden said Welle has been a quick study in the Falcons’ offensive scheme, and she’s quick, skilled and scrappy around the cage to finish off scoring chances. Welle scored one goal last season.
