Chase Campbell had an interesting match for visiting Severna Park girls soccer Wednesday night.

After almost scoring twice earlier in the contest, including once on her own goal, Campbell ended the contest 90 seconds into the second overtime. She connected on a free kick 20 yards out that beat Sammy King to the right corner to keep the Falcons undefeated with a 1-0 victory over Arundel in Gambrills.

“Toni (Fiocco-Mizer) usually takes the free kicks, but Chase works on them diligently during the offseason and she tells me all about it,” Severna Park coach Brian Morgan said with a grin. “I think she might have to get another chance after that effort.”

The ending spoiled a strong effort in Nicole McWilliams’ debut as Arundel coach.

The Wildcats (0-1) survived an initial 25 minutes of the initial push from Severna Park (4-0), with King solid in goal in the first half, including a nice stop on Bella Espinoza’s effort in the 30th minute.

“I thought we did everything well and we played much better as the game went along,” McWilliams said. “This team’s confidence is growing every day. We have gone from not being able to string three passes together to trying to be creative with the ball all the time.”
