Bayhawks’ Heacock gets 3-year extension

-

The Chesapeake Bayhawks have signed midfielderattackman Colin Heacock (Boys’ Latin, Maryland) to a three-year deal through the 2021 Major League Lacrosse season. Heacock, a member of the 2017 Terps’ championship team, has spent both years of his MLL career with the Bayhawks, having been selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2017 draft. Last season, Heacock had 40 points, 25 goals and 14 assists in 15 season. “I think Colin is one of the best young players in the league, and is going to be a rising super star,” coach Dave Cottle (Northern, Salisbury) said. “Being a local kid who played at Maryland, he embodies what the Bayhawks are all about.” NHL: The NHL questioned the Washington Capitals about re-signing Brooks Orpik after trading him to Colorado and cleared the Stanley Cup champions of any wrongdoing. General manager Brian MacLellan said the league questioned the Capitals for trading the veteran defenseman and then bringing him back at a cheaper salary after the Avalanche bought him out. MacLellan said the Capitals were above board in everything they did and would face no consequences. HORSE RACING: Jockey Katie Davis, recently recovered from shoulder surgery, made a successful return Friday. She rallied Winners Circle Partners XII’s His Royal Majesty to a nose victory in the sixth race at Laurel Park, her first mount in more than 10 months. WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Maryland hit at a .343 percentage over two matches to pick up straight-set wins over New Hampshire and Temple on Friday. MEN’S COLLEGE WATER POLO: Johns Hopkins freshman Jayden Kunwar was named the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Rookie of the Week. —
