Wildcats get out fast, stay unbeaten
Arundel’s Andrews runs for 3 TDs in team’s 3rd victory
Apparently whatever got into the Arundel football team midway through last week’s win over Meade carried over to this week.
The No. 13 Wildcats, who fought back from a three-score deficit to defeat Meade in Week 2, turned the tables this week and ran out to the same lead on South River and never looked back in a 42-20 victory over the Seahawks on Friday.
Arundel (3-0) trailed Meade 22-0 late in the first half last week before rallying for a 26-22 victory. On Friday, the Wildcats ran out to the same lead at the half against a South River team that entered the game averaging 34 points in its first two victories.
Jordan Andrews ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns and Austin Slye and RJ Chandler hooked up for a pair of scores for the Wildcats, who will play at Broadneck next week.
South River (2-1) got as close as 22-7 when Delvin Johnson scored on a 1-yard run on South River’s first drive of the second half, but Arundel scored the next 20 points and took a 42-7 lead to the fourth. Andrews scored on runs of 56 and 65 yards and Gereme Spraggins returned a fumble 35 yards for a score in the third.

He scored Arundel’s first two touchdowns. with a running clock before South River’s Joe Foy scored on a 1-yard run with 2:46 left. The Seahawks scored in the final minute when David Foust hit Sam Peterson for an 11-yard score in the final minute.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats struck first early in the second when Slye hit Chandler for a 23-yard touchdown. The score was set up by Slye’s 37-yard pass to Chandler down the right sideline after the Wildcats had taken over at their own 45.
Slye and Chandler hooked up again late in the second quarter to push the lead to 15-0. Slye picked up 28 yards with his legs, then hit Chandler for a 26-yard touchdown.
As the Seahawks were in Arundel territory in the final minutes of the half, Kottrell Davis hit Foust and William Oliver scooped up the fumble and returned it all the way to the South River 24. Andrews scored on the next play to make it a 22-0 game at the half.
Dominick Bramante also picked off a pass and Davis, Spraggins and Khari Stewart had sacks in the half for Arundel.
The Seahawks had a chance to go ahead in the first quarter, but after moving all the way to the Arundel 8, had a touchdown called back for an ineligible player down field.
