Baltimore boxer captures WBC women’s crown

-

Baltimore’s Franchón Crews-Dezurn left the ring unscathed after winning the World Boxing Council super-middleweight crown Thursday in Las Vegas. “No scars, bruises or busted lips,” Crews-Dezurn said Tuesday, returning home from her victory over Maricela Cornejo of Los Angeles in a 10-round majority decision. She did come back a bit heavier, wearing the championship belt. It was the fourth victory for CrewsDezurn, 31, undefeated since a loss in her pro debut in 2016. Cornejo (12-3) was, on record, her toughest foe yet. Crews-Dezurn, who attended Douglass High, is an eight-time national amateur champion. Two years ago, she won a bronze at the World Boxing Championships. COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY: The third-ranked Terps (9-0) battled back from a three-goal deficit to top No. 5 Princeton, 5-4, Tuesday night in double overtime at the Tigers’ Bedford Field. Junior Nike Lorenz scored the game-winner. —
