Bowie players dominate CIAA football honors

Bowie State claimed six of the nine weekly spots on the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n Honor Roll. Senior Amir Hall (Riverdale Baptist) was selected as Quarterbac­k of the Week for the third straight week while fellow senior Lansana Sesay was named Receiver of the Week. Freshman Malik Bellamy was voted Offensive Lineman of the Week, junior Brandon Abrams (Milford Mill) was voted Offensive Back of the Week, junior Taylor Johnson was tabbed Defensive Back of the Week and sophomore Kenny Fuentez was selected Special Teams Player of the Week. Bowie State hits the road for the fourth straight weekend, opening conference play at Saint Augustine’s on Saturday at 1 p.m. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Loyola Maryland senior captains Gabriel Carlsson and A. Mickey Watson are among the 30 NCAA players selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. ... Brian Graham scored the first two goals as host Washington College (3-3-1) defeated Wesley, 4-0. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Danielle Fuentes had a goal and two assists in UMBC’s 4-3 win over Mount St. Mary’s. COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY: Sixth-ranked Salisbury earned its sixth win, defeating No. 15 Johns Hopkins, 3-1, as McKenzie Mitchell led the way with two goals. MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE: Short-stick defensive midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen (Maryland) signed a three-year deal with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. PRO BASKETBALL: The Baltimore Shuckers of the Central Basketball Associatio­n signed Antonio Wright (Meade, CCBC-Essex). Wright was named an All-CBA All-Star in 2018 and will be playing his seventh season of profession­al ball, including his sixth with Baltimore. WOMEN’S PRO SOCCER: Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle and forward Mallory Pugh have been selected for the U.S. women’s national team’s 20-player roster for the Concacaf Women’s Championsh­ip. MEN’S COLLEGE GOLF: Towson senior William Bachelor was selected as the Colonial Athletic Associatio­n co-Golfer Of The Week. Competing at the rain-shortened Hartford Hawks Invitation­al, Bachelor fired two under-par rounds to finish in a tie for 12th overall at 3-under par. —
