AROUND THE HORN

Mets: INF Wilmer Flores will miss the rest of the season because of soreness in both knees. Manager Mickey Callaway said Flores has early-onset arthritis in both knees and will receive injections to alleviate the pain. “It’s not like surgery is recommended at this time,” Callaway said. “I think rest and a couple injections is supposed to knock this out pretty good.” Flores hit .267 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Marlins: Derek Jeter is signaling that Don Mattingly is expected to return next year as manager, providing dugout continuity for a last-place team in transition. Mattingly has one season to go on a four-year contract he signed when he joined the Marlins in 2016. When asked about Mattingly returning in 2019, Jeter said, “He’s under contract.” The Marlins will finish last in the NL East in Jeter’s first year as CEO. They began their final home series Thursday with a record of 59-92, giving Mattingly a 3-year record of 215-259.

Angels: Francisco Arcia began the day behind the plate, did a brief stint on the mound and ended up in the record books. Arcia pitched two innings of relief and hit his sixth home run in the Angels’ 21-3 loss to the Athletics. In doing so, Arcia became the first player to catch, pitch and homer in the same game, according to the Angels. “They just told me that,” Arcia said. “I’m pretty happy, I guess.” Arcia, 29, was already in the record books after driving in 10 runs in his first two games after being called up July 26.

Yankees: Luke Voit and the Yankees set two home run records with one swing of the bat. He hit a two-run shot to center field in the second inning to give the Yankees a major-leaguerecord 12 players with at least 10 home runs this season. Voit’s homer also was the 246th for the Yankees this year, breaking the franchise mark set in 2012. Entering the game, the Yankees were on pace for 263 home runs — one short of the big-league record by the 1997 Mariners.
