Defense led the way as the third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (10-0, 2-0 Big Ten) blanked No. 23 Ohio State, 1-0, Friday afternoon at Maryland’s Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Terrapins picked up their third shutout and sixth win over a ranked team with the victory. At 10-0, Maryland is off to its best start since 2013. when it started 15-0. Sophomore Bodil Keus put Maryland on the board just 2:35 into the match when she sent in a shot off a penalty corner set up by juniors Kelee Lepage and Madison Maguire. MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE: Niko Amato (Maryland) signed a three-year contract extension with the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Friday. Amato, in his fourth season with the team, started in all but one game last season, recording1­68 saves (including a career high 20-save game), a .537 save percentage and posting a record of 8-5. MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Midfielder Ryan Conrad (Loyola Blakefield) was named a captain for Virginia, joing attackman Michael Kraus and midfielder Dave Smith as the Cavaliers’ team leaders for 2019. —
