Quinnipiac suspends men’s lacrosse team amid probe

Quinnipiac University officials confirmed that the school’s men’s lacrosse team has been suspended, effectivel­y immediatel­y. In a statement issued Sunday by Lynn Bushnell, the school’s vice president for public affairs, the suspension “prohibits all team activity, including practicing and representi­ng the university in competitio­ns.” The team is being investigat­ed for possible violations of the university’s student conduct policy, which touches on everything from underage drinking to abuse. Bushnell says the “university has zero tolerance for any behavior that endangers any member of the university community.” The team’s season is scheduled to begin in February. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Navy forced overtime against Holy Cross, but the Midshipmen (1-6-1, 0-1Patriot League) fell, 2-1, to the host Crusaders (1-3-3, 1-0). Phillip Gustafson scored Navy’s lone goal, while Ian Bramblett made seven saves to set a new career best. Holy Cross scored the game-winner in the 98th minute. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Mount St. Mary’s and visiting Fairleigh Dickinson tied 1-1 in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams. Kayla Hughes scored for the Mountainee­rs (1-6-2, 0-0-1) off a free kick in the 49th minute. Fairleigh Dickinson (2-6-3, 0-0-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.
