Navy expects Perry back for Air Force

-

Navy starting quarterback Malcolm Perry remains in the concussion protocol, but the prognosis he will be able to play against service academy rival Air Force is positive. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said Perry is probable for Air Force, which will host Navy on Oct. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs. Navy is practicing Wednesday through Friday this week, and Perry is not scheduled to participate. “We feel Malcolm is going to be back and will do some things during the course of next week,” Niumatalolo said. Perry suffered a slight concussion during Saturday’s 31-30 overtime loss at Southern Methodist University. Niumatalolo wasn’t quite as confident about wide receiver- quarterback Zach Abey (Archbishop Spalding), who suffered a lower body injury in the second half of the SMU game. “I’d say Zach is somewhere in-between probable and questionable,” Niumatalolo said. “Zach is such a tough and resilient kid so I would not bet against him.” CAMPBELL NOMINEES: Stevenson senior linebacker Ashton Leschke, Johns Hopkins senior defensive lineman Anthony Davidson and Navy senior offensive tackle Andrew Wood are among the 179 semifinalists across all levels of college football for the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame William V. Campbell Trophy. The award recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. The NFF will announce 12 to 14 finalists Oct. 31, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 60th NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4. 2018-19 schedule will be heavy on their three Eastern Division opponents — newcomer Utica City FC joining Mississauga and the Harrisburg Heat — with six games against each. The remaining six games will be home-and-home series against the Milwaukee Wave and Orlando SeaWolves of the Eastern Conference’s South Central Division, plus one meeting each with the Kansas City Comets and Florida Tropics. The regular season will run from Dec. 1 through April 6. On Jan. 12, the Harrisburg Heat will make their first visit to Baltimore under new coach and longtime Blast star Pat Healey.
