Kavanaugh proved his unfitness

The old adage of football coaches is that a good offense is the best defense. This seems to be playing out with the hearings for the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. If the truth is not enough, go with outrage. The process now clearly resembles the nomination of Justice Clarence Thomas, with Judge Kavanaugh invoking a conspiracy to disable his nomination, not unlike the “lynching” metaphor that Justice Thomas used to such good effect during his nomination process.

Judge Kavanaugh, in response to having his feet held to the fire, is showing the very colors and attitude that indicate that he would, indeed, act in a way that his opponents are concerned about, that is, with a partisan Republican anti-woman agenda. The implications are many, including those connected to issues of racial equity. It is dismaying to watch the old white guard work so hard to guarantee the preservation of their outdated beliefs.
