Young directs Chesapeake past Lansdowne in football

Towson shuts out Perry Hall, 3-0, in boys soccer

Dylan Young completed 11 of 18 passes for 274 yards and threw three touchdown passes to lead host Chesapeake-AA to a 49-20 victory over Lansdowne on Friday. The Cougars (5-0) fell behind early when the Vikings (3-2) returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but scored on its first four possession­s of the game. The only time Chesapeake didn’t score in the first half is when time ran out in the half with them at midfield.

The 5-0 start is the first in school history for the Cougars. They were 4-1 last year, but were later awarded a win against Towson.

Young connected with Russell Tongue for six completion­s for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Tongue’s 203 yards receiving set the school record for receiving yards in a game, which Tongue set against Severna Park in Week 2.

Chesapeake had a 16-point lead at the half and put the game away with rushing touchdowns from Jaylen Richardson and Cole Foca in the third quarter. Mikah Banks added a 4-yard score in the fourth for the Cougars.

The Chesapeake defense, which came into the game having given up just 16 points in its first four games, which included a pair of shutouts, gave up just 14 points after the Vikings ran back the opening kickoff. Lansdowne scored with 4:36 left in the first quarter and didn’t score again until the final minute of the game.

In addition to Cody Carpenter’s fumble recovery in the first half, Bryce Carleton had an intercepti­on in the fourth quarter that led to Chesapeake’s last score. Coming into the game, Chesapeake hadn’t given up a point in seven straight quarters.

Young, who entered the game with 753 yards passing with seven touchdowns and no intercepti­ons through his first four games, threw all three of his touchdown passes and had 204 yards passing in the first half alone.

NO. 13 ARUNDEL 61, GLEN BURNIE 14: Austin Slye completed 12 of 16 for 158 yards and three touchdown passes to lead the host Wildcats (4-1) past the Gophers (1-4). Arundel led 55-0 in the first half.

ST. PAUL’S 40, ARCHBISHOP CURLEY 22: The host Crusaders (3-1, 2-0 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n B Conference) won their second straight by beating the Friars (1-4, 1-1).

SEVERN 22, CONCORDIA PREP18: Craig Stevens threw two touchdown passes and Henry Rentz had one rushing touchdown to lead the host Admirals (2-2) past the Saints (4-2). Owura Berko and Owen Cauley each made an intercepti­on for Severn.

DULANEY 36, CATONSVILL­E 0: Kyrone Fox threw two touchdown passes and ran for won in the first half to lead visiting Lions (2-3) to a 36-0 victory over the Comets (1-4).

Linebacker and lineman Chance Thames was stellar on both sides of the ball.
