Baltimore’s Vennari places second on minor golf tour

Dominick Vennari of Baltimore finished second after losing a playoff to Justin Martinson on Tuesday at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla., on the Minor League Golf Tour. Martinson, of Avondale, Pa., outlasted four other players who also posted 2-under-par 70s for his first victory of the tour with a birdie on the second hole. Martinson received $850 from the $4,800 purse and Vennari earned $657.40. On a windy day, there were five more who tied at 71 and nine at 72 in the 38-player field. MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: D.C. United midfielder Luciano Acosta was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week. Acosta scored a goal and recorded three assists in D.C.’s 5-0 victory over the Montreal Impact at Audi Field on Saturday. RUNNING: Athletes Serving Athletes will hold its 10th annual RunFest, which includes a 10k, 5k, 1-mile walk and kids’ fun run in Hunt Valley on Oct. 13. The past 10 RunFest events raised $92,000 to benefit ASA’s WingMan program.
