Ramsey’s position clear on Chiefs’ Hill

-

Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey doesn’t view Chiefs speedster Tyreek Hill as much of a matchup concern. At least not as a receiver. Ramsey fired back at Hill on Thursday, pointing out that his two Pro Bowl appearances came as a returner.

“I don’t like how whoever has made it a matchup me against Tyreek,” Ramsey said three days before the Chiefs (4-0) host the Jaguars (3-1).

“He’s good for what he does for their team. He made All-Pro as a return specialist. Let’s get that right — as a return specialist — his rookie year. He went to two Pro Bowls as a return specialist — return specialist — two years.

“I made All-Pro in my position as a corner, went to the Pro Bowl as a corner. So it’s not a wide receiver versus corner matchup, so we can get that out of the way off the bat.”

Hill called Ramsey a “great player, obviously” a day earlier, but Ramsey seemed to take offense to some of Hill’s other remarks.

“He obviously thinks high of himself, so he’s all right, I guess,” Hill said. “I can’t wait to line up against him, and I hope he presses me.” Hill will get his wish. “If you look at my film, what do I do every week?” Ramsey said. “I play press, right? Every week, no matter who I’m playing, so if he wants smoke, it’ll get there.” Browns defensive back Jabrill Peppers says he has stopped going out in public by himself in Cleveland following hostile confrontations with fans.

Peppers said he has endured verbal taunts and some joking in the past, but that lately some of the encounters have nearly gotten physical.

“When you walk up on another man, that’s a hostile situation,” Peppers said. “It puts me in kind of a funky situation where I can’t even go get daily toiletries or things without having to worry about something like that.”

Peppers did not give any specifics. However, on Wednesday he told the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram about an “aggressive” exchange in a drug store in which “my boy had to pull me away one time.”

Peppers believes some of the grief he’s taken is because he went to Michigan and plays in a city where rival Ohio State fans are abundant.

“Sometimes it’s more so jokes, but as of late it’s kind of a little bit more different situation than just verbal,” he said.

The Patriots activated WR Julian Edelman to the 53-man roster, making him eligible to make his season debut Thursday against the Colts. Edelman was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancers. ... Panthers TE Greg Olsen returned to practice on a limited basis just four weeks after re-breaking his right foot in the season opener. Coach Ron Rivera said Olsen won’t play Sunday against the Giants and his status will be reevaluated next week. Olsen said it is “not out of the question” that he could return Oct. 14 against the Redskins.
