Former Orioles infielder Mike Bordick threw his name into the mix to be the club’s next manager Thursday.

Bordick, who currently broadcasts games for MASNandon the Orioles Radio Network, told Press Box’s Glenn Clark Radio that he was interested in succeeding Buck Showalter. Showalter was told Wednesday he wouldn’t be back in a culling that also saw executive vice president Dan Duquette relieved of his duties as his contract expired as well.

“Who wouldn’t want to jump at an opportunity to manage the Orioles?” Bordick said on the show Thursday. “I’ve been around the organization. I’ve known it for a while. When you’re in the game, you want to contribute. From my standpoint, I’ve been able to be a part of the organization in a lot of different ways. Certainly I care about the team, I care about ownership, I care about the community. ... I’m definitely going to put my name in there.”

Bordick played for the Orioles for six seasons, from 1997-2002.

When his playing career ended, Bordick spent time as a minor league offensive skills coordinator.

He’d fit the mold set recently by the likes of Alex Cora and Aaron Boone as first-time managers who came from a television role after a major league playing career, though Cora was bench coach in Houston before taking the Boston job.
