There was plenty going against Chesapeake-Anne Arundel in its game with South River on Friday.

The Cougars gave up two touchdowns in the first quarter, but eventually rallied to tie. Quarterback Dylan Young threw his first interception of the year in the second half that led to a South River field goal. Then, after Chesapeake went ahead for the first time, the Seahawks answered with their second touchdown of the game on fourth down and regained the lead.

Young hit Russell Tongue for the goahead 26-yard touchdown with a little more than six minutes left, then Tongue intercepted a pass near the goal line three minutes later and the Cougars remained unbeaten with 28-24 victory over the Seahawks on Homecoming.

Tongue caught three passes for 66 yards, but two of them went for touchdowns. His biggest play of the night, though, came with the Seahawks driving for a potential go-ahead score. As a long pass sailed toward the end zone, Tongue picked off the pass and gave the ball back to the Cougars, who eventually ran out the clock.

Young finished with 164 yards and two touchdowns, while Khalil Gary scored his seventh and eighth touchdowns of the year for Chesapeake.

South River threatened to turn the game into a rout when it scored on its first two possessions and took a 14-0 lead on the strength of touchdown runs from Joe Foy and Delvin Johnson. Foy scored from 55 yards out on South River’s fourth play of the game. After a Chesapeake punt, the Seahawks engineered a 15-play, 93 yard drive and went up 14-0 on Johnson’s 3-yard run on a direct snap on fourth down.

The Cougars needed just 1:30 to cut into the lead on their next possession. Young hit Conton Spangler for 48 yards to the1, which set up Gary’s touchdown run that made it a 14-7 game. After a South River punt, Chesapeake drove 89 yards and tied the game when Young hit Tongue for a 28-yard score with 1:26 left in the half. Young went 3 for 3 on third down on the drive, including the touchdown pass to Tongue.
