Towson football continues rise in national FCS polls

The Towson University football team moved up to No. 17 in the STATS Football Championsh­ip Subdivisio­n poll and to No. 18 in the American Football Coaches Associatio­n FCS poll. The Tigers are coming off their third straight victory over a team ranked in the top 15. Towson hosts William & Mary on Saturday at 4 p.m. MORE COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Maryland senior running back Ty Johnson was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week. ... Johns Hopkins jumped to 24th in the AFCA Top 25 poll and moved into the D3football.com poll at No. 25. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Maryland and host Georgetown tied, 0-0, after 120 minutes. The Terps (4-4-3) and Hoyas (6-3-3) combined for 35 total shots. MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: The Frederick Keys were named winners of the Carolina League’s Complete Franchise Award. The annual honor goes to a team that demonstrat­es stability and significan­t contributi­ons to its community and league. The Keys are the league’s nominee for Minor League Baseball’s John H. Johnson President’s Award-recognizin­g the top overall franchise in the minors. —
