Atholton wins 9th straight match

Top-ranked Raiders sweep Glenelg in volleyball; Meade posts boys soccer shutout

Top-ranked Atholton survived three tossand-turn sets with visiting No. 3 Glenelg to sweep the Gladiators, 3-0, remaining unbeaten both in Howard County (6-0) and overall (9-0).

Tuesday’s win over Glenelg (8-1, 5-1) had been so hard-fought that coach Larry Schofield would like to pit his girls against them again as soon as possible.

“We just beat a really good team and it took a good team to beat them,” he said. “I’d like to play them again in a scrimmage just to make us a little bit better.”

NO. 8 ARUNDEL 3, NOTRE DAME PREP 0: Brook Watts had 13 kills and Abby Niles had 38 assists to lead the visiting Wildcats (8-1) past the Blazers (3-9). Arundel won, 25-16, 25-21, 25-14.

NO. 11 ST. PAUL’S 3, PERRY HALL 0: Shelby Lucas had 16 kills to lead St. Paul’s (10-2) past host Perry Hall (4-6). St. Paul’s won, 25-9, 25-16, 25-23.

Boys soccer

NO. 1 RIVER HILL 2, NO. 7 WILDE LAKE 2, 2OT: The host Wildecats (9-0-2) became the first team to score twice on the Hawks (9-0-1).

NO. 6 MEADE 6, SOUTH RIVER 0: Chris Loring scored twice and Tosin Ayokunle had a goal and an assist as the host Mustangs (9-1-1) shut out the Seahawks (4-6).

NO. 11 BROADNECK 5, NORTHEAST 0: Bryce Costello had a goal and two assists to lead the host Bruins (9-2) past the Eagles (3-4-1). Broadneck outshot Northeast 13-3.

Field hockey

NO. 2 ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 5, JOHN CARROLL 0: Margot Lawn had two goals and two assists and the Cavaliers (12-2, 5-1 Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland AConferenc­e) shut out the host Patriots (1-8, 0-6). Spalding led 3-0 in the first half.

NO. 8 ARUNDEL 9, NORTH COUNTY 0: Nikki Seven had a hat trick and the host Wildcats (8-3) shut out the Knights (2-6).

SEVERN 9, INDIAN CREEK 0: Sydney Kirchenhei­ter had two goals and an assist and Regan King had two goals as the Admirals (7-3) shut out the Eagles (3-5).

Boys golf

DULANEY WINS: The Lions won the Class 4A-3A District VI Championsh­ip at Fox Hollow with a score of 298. Dulaney advances to the state tournament at the University of Maryland on Oct. 22 and 24. Dulaney’s Chan Park shot a 71, the low individual score for the tournament.
