Schultz takes control, wins State Senior Open golf title

Dirk Schultz shot a second-round 70 for a 36-hole total of 136 to win the 19th Maryland State Senior Open championsh­ip by three strokes at Worthingto­n Manor Golf Club in Urbana. Schultz, head profession­al at Beaver Creek CCin Hagerstown, broke away from a tightly bunched leaderboar­d with four front-nine birdies to win his second title in the event. Jimmy Estes, teaching pro at Olney Golf Park in Montgomery County, finished second with 71-139. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Salisbury had its 10match unbeaten streak halted d with a1-0 loss to St. Mary’s in Capital Athletic Conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Sea Gulls (8-2-2, 1-1-1 CAC) were able to generate three corner kicks in the first 10 minutes but produced just one shot off those corners. Khalid Balogun scored for the Seahawks (9-2-2, 2-1 CAC) and Trevor Brookhart (Liberty) had four saves for Salisbury. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Bowie State senior Lansana Sesay was named Receiver of the Week for the fourth time this season by the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n. Sesay recorded a game-high and career-high 195 reception yards in Bowie State’s 42-23 loss at Chowan. —
