Arundel elevates Baur to head boys lax coach

-

Arundel athletic director Kevin Necessary didn’t need to search far to find his next boys lacrosse coach. The best choice was already inhouse — assistant coach Bobby Baur. “I think he’s already very much a leader in our building, and what I hope is he’s able to really bring a positive culture,” Necessary said. “That’s what I’m looking for with any head coach hire. Wins are great, that sort of thing is great, but do they first take into account the experience of the high school kid?” Baur replaces three-year coach Larry Kramer, whose last season resulted in a 10-6 mark. Kramer left the program before the end of the regular season; Necessary took over to guide the Wildcats through the playoffs, where they fell to eventual state champion Severna Park in the section final. Baur had always wanted to be head coach. He’d been close, serving under head coaches for eight years, first at Bel Air in 2011 and C. Milton Wright from 2012 to 2016 before taking a job with Arundel as a technology education teacher, assisting Kramer. Baur played four years for the Bel Air varsity lacrosse team as well as for Washington College.
