Washington’s Stein wins Marine Corps Marathon

Jeffrey Stein, 32, of Washington won the men’s title at Sunday’s Marine Corps Marathon in Washington with an official time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, 49 seconds. California resident and Navy Lieutenant Patrick Hearn crossed the finish line 37 seconds later to claim second place, while Navy Lieutenant Commander Will Christian of Chesapeake, Va., came in third in 2:24:23. Stein was the top D.C. resident last year, finishing eighth overall in 2:30:53. Jenny Mendez Suanca, 38, the 2015 Marine Corps Marathon winner in the women’s division, broke the tape 6:15 before the second-place woman, Lindsay Gabow of San Antonio. Suanca’s time of 2:40:19 was a new personal best by nearly five minutes. MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: D.C. United ran their unbeaten streak to nine games with a 0-0 tie with the Chicago Fire (8-18-8). Bill Hamid had two saves in his fifth shutout of the season for United (14-11-9), who earned the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and are home against fifth-seeded Columbus for the knockout round Wednesday or Thursday.
