Unitas passes Tittle for most NFL career passing yards
NOV. 3, 2000: Despite his team’s dreadful offense — five straight weeks without a touchdown — Ravens owner Art Modell predicts they just might win their last seven games. “We could run the table,” Modell says. “I’m not promising, but it’s possible.” Baltimore complies, finishes 12-4 and wins the Super Bowl.
NOV. 3, 1996: One game after passing for 429 yards in a Ravens victory and earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week, quarterback Vinny Testaverde is intercepted four times (twice in the end zone) in a 24-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at Memorial Stadium.
NOV. 2, 1994: On the night it honors 20-year coach Lil Shelton, Severna Park’s No. 1 field hockey team defeats Chesapeake-Anne Arundel, 1-0, in sudden death for its 34th straight victory to capture a regional championship. It’s the 253rd win of Shelton’s career.
NOV. 1, 1981: The Colts lose a teamrecord eighth consecutive game, 27-10, to the Miami Dolphins at the Orange Bowl. Twice, in the same offensive series, holding penalties nullify touchdown passes by quarterback Bert Jones.
OCT. 30, 1966: In the Colts’ 17-3 victory over the Rams in Los Angeles, quarterback Johnny Unitas becomes the NFL all-time leader in career passing yards (28,375), surpassing Y.A. Tittle. Unitas throws for 252 yards and two touchdowns, including an 89-yard scoring pass to John Mackey on the Colts’ first play from scrimmage.
OCT. 31, 1964: Kelso, the celebrated Maryland gelding, wins the 2-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup race at Aqueduct for the fifth straight year. The victory — Kelso’s 35th in 55 starts — makes the Bohemia Stables thoroughbred the leading money-winning horse of all time ($1,803,362).
NOV. 1, 1963: Unbeaten Poly routs Patterson, 34-0, in football at Kirk Field. Ernie Torain scores two touchdowns for coach Bob Lumsden’s Engineers, who have outscored six opponents 230-6.
NOV. 24, 1951: Having crushed West Virginia, 54-7, at Byrd Stadium to end the regular season 9-0, Maryland’s football team celebrates by throwing coach Jim Tatum in the shower. Ed Modzelewski scores twice for the Terps, unbeaten and untied for the first time since 1893.

OCT. 28, 1900: Johnny Neun (City), who, as first baseman for the Detroit Tigers in 1927, made an unassisted triple play against the Cleveland Indians. The ball and his mitt are on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Neun died in 1990 in Baltimore. twitter.com/MikeKlingaman
