Fire at Severna Park home leaves two dogs dead

Fire tore through a Severna Park home Thursday, displacing a family of four and killing two of their pets before firefighte­rs extinguish­ed it. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded at 7:29 p.m. to a family home on Surrey Road to find a kitchen fire burning. Firefighte­rs were able to extinguish the blaze in less than 10 minutes, said a department spokesman, Russ Davies. But the fire madethe homeuninha­bitable and killed two family dogs. The home belonged to Anna Torres-Radle and her family, owners of the local Fieldstone Animal Inn. Other pets were safe, as they were outside at the time. The Radle family was not home when the house caught fire. “When they returned home black smoke filled the house and flames were coming from the kitchen windows,” according to a GoFundMe campaign set up to benefit the family. The fundraisin­g campaign has raised $11,235. The family could not be reached for comment. The official cause of the fire is still under investigat­ion, Davies said. The fire caused $85,000 of damage.

Man fatally shot in East Baltimore

A man was fatally shot in East Baltimore early Monday morning, according to Baltimore police. Officers were dispatched to the1300 block of Bonaparte Ave. in East Baltimore Midway just before 3 a.m., police said. There, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Homicide detectives are ask- ing anyone with informatio­n to contact them at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1866-7lockup.

Paralegal attacked outside federal courthouse

A paralegal for the U.S. attorney’s office in Baltimore was attacked outside the federal courthouse downtown Monday morning. Some young men jumped the 24-year-old and one punched him outside U.S. District Court on West Lombard Street. The victim was seen talking to police with blood on his shirt and face shortly before 11 a.m. U.S. Marshals from the courthouse responded to the scene outside. The victim was examined at an area hospital and released. The attack is not believed to be related to any cases, said Marcia Murphy, a spokeswoma­n for the Baltimore U.S. attorney’s office. Baltimore police are actively looking for suspects, a department representa­tive said in an email Monday.
