Shooting is first homicide in Annapolis this year

Annapolis police said a man died after being shot on Bens Drive in front of his home Tuesday night. It was the city’s first homicide of 2018. Sgt. Amy Miguez, a city police spokeswoma­n, said Kory Johnson, 27, of Annapolis died after he was shot in the torso. Officers responded to the scene at 7:48 p.m. Tuesday and found Johnson shot in front of his apartment in Bay Ridge Gardens. He was immediatel­y transporte­d to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Miguez said the department believes Johnson was targeted, but that it’s not clear why. Police have not arrested a suspect. Thoms was transferre­d to work in the school system’s central office before being placed on administra­tive leave in June. The child at the center of the allegation­s was a student at Mary Moss. Thoms will be reassigned today to a new position within the school system where he won’t have contact with students, Mosier said.
