Caps call up Ness from Hershey to bolster defense

The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Aaron Ness from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and have assigned Travis Boyd to Hershey on a long-term injury conditioni­ng assignment. Ness, 28, played in 11 games with Hershey this season and registered four assists. Boyd, 25, has played in seven career games for the Capitals after making his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 4, 2017. Boyd recorded his first career point, an assist, against the Philadelph­ia Flyers on March 18. PRO BASKETBALL: The Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards’ NBA G League affiliate, waived Quinton Chievous. The roster move brings the team to 10 players, not including twoway or assignment players. Capital City will open up its inaugural season at home on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against the Greensboro Swarm. —
