Record & Tape Traders says it will close after 40 years

- — Lillian Reed

After 40 years in business, Towson’s Record & Tape Traders announced plans in a social media post Thursday to close the store. The business began a liquidation with heavily discounted sales Thursday that will continue through Christmas, the post states. Business representatives could not be reached for comment Thursday. The post thanks customers for their loyalty over the years and asked the community to stop by the shop behind Dulaney Plaza in the 700 block of Dulaney Valley Road to say farewell in the coming weeks. “We were so proud to be your music and movie location for as long as we could,” the post states. “That's the way she goes.” Record & Tape Traders was once a chain with locations spread from Frederick to Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Glen Burnie to Westminster. A Catonsville store closed in 2011. It’s not clear when the others closed. The Towson store is in the same building as Ukazoo Books’ former location. Ukazoo shut down that store in 2016, opening in a much smaller location on Loch Raven Boulevard in 2017.
