Big return for Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State guard Michael Weathers, who was charged with grand larceny in September and suspended from the team, has been allowed to return to practice.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton made the announceme­nt Thursday in a statement on social media.

According to Payne County court records, Weathers pleaded guilty to a misdemeano­r charge of knowingly concealing stolen property and received a two-year deferred sentence. He made a public apology on social media on Thursday for what he called a “terrible decision” to steal a purse.

Boynton said Weathers has shown “sincere remorse” and will “begin the process of regaining the trust of his teammates and coaches as it relates to returning to games.”

Weathers was the MidAmerica­n Conference freshman of the year in 2016-17 after averaging 16.7 points per game. He sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. Oklahoma State lost most of its top players from last season, giving Weathers a chance to play a significan­t role this season.

Oklahoma State opens its season Saturday at Charlotte. Recruiting news: Five-star center Will Baker announced his commitment to Texas on Thursday.

Baker, the No. 7-ranked center in the country, chose the Longhorns over UCLA. He visited both schools over the summer.

Baker is an Austin native who attends Westlake High School, which is about 7 miles from the Texas campus., giving the Red Raiders their highest-ranked recruit in school history.

Top-30 senior Jahmius Ramsey committed to Texas Tech, giving the Red Raiders their highest-ranked recruit in school history.

Ramsey, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Duncanvill­e (Texas) High School, chose the Red Raiders over Memphis.

Ranked No. 28 in the ESPN 100 for the Class of 2019, Ramsey is the third top-100 prospect to commit to Texas Tech since the ESPN recruiting database began in 2007.
