MEAC Hall of Fame class includes UMES’ Worsley

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the five members of its 2019 Hall of Fame Class. The class includes Jessica Worsley, a 2017 inductee into the UMES Hall of Fame. The first bowler to be inducted, Worsley led the Hawks to their first national championsh­ip appearance in 2007 and their first title in 2008, the first for any women’s sport at an HBCU. The class also includes South Carolina State defensive back Dwayne Harper, longtime Florida A&M assistant Alvin Hollins, Hampton track and football star Jerome Mathis, and Norfolk State men’s basketball player and current Indiana Pacer Kyle O’Quinn. The inductees will be enshrined during an awards brunch March 14 in Norfolk, Va., and will be recognized during the MEAC men’s basketball tournament March 14 at the Norfolk Scope Arena. NHL: The Washington Capitals lent forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to Djurgarden­s IF of the Swedish Hockey League. Jonsson-Fjallby, 20, appeared in 15 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League this season, recording two goals and one assist. —
