Owen Johnson, Calvert Hall, cross country
A final push paid off for the junior, who came from behind to edge Loyola Blakefield’s Camden Gilmore for the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference individual title last Wednesday at McDaniel. Johnson made his move with about 5 yards left, reaching the tape less than a second before Gilmore to win in 16 minutes, 22.7 seconds. Gilmore finished in 16:23.5. TheCardinals took second as a teamwithLoyola winning, 40-42. Johnson, also a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams, took up running as a freshman and has vastly improved.
