Klan flyers found in two Carroll communities
Ku Klux Klan flyers were found in two Carroll County communities over the weekend. Chris Patrick of Eldersburg said he went out to the end of his driveway Sunday at around 4:45 p.m. to pick up the free newspapers that get delivered and found the KKK flyer on his property. The flyer was inside a plastic baggie and weighed down with bird seed, he said. Patrick, who has lived in Carroll County since 2000, said he’s never had something like this happen before. He said he felt “angry” about the situation. “I don’t want to see that sort of hate in my neighborhood and most of all not on my property,” Patrick said. Patrick said his whole whole neighborhood of Avonshire Woods received the flyers. Amy Patrick, Chris Patrick’s wife, said via email that the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office came by Monday morning to pick up the flyers, get more information and provide a case number. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tim Brown said they are asking anyone who has received the flyers or who has information to report it to the Sheriff’s Office at 410-3865900. Cpl. Carl Bird, of the Sykesville Police Department, described the same type of flyer that the Patrick family saw — leaflets in a plastic bag with bird seed in it. Bird said there were about eight scattered on various sidewalks and on people’s cars Saturday night. On Sunday, four more bags were found on different lawns in Sykesville. Bird said Sykesville police are asking anyone with information about the flyers and who might have distributed them to call 410-795-0757.
