Penguins place goalie Murray on IR

The Penguins placed goalie Matt Murray on injured reserve with a lower-body injury Thursday.

The team expects Murray to be out a while. The 24-year-old has 4-5-1 record with a 4.08 goals against average and .877 save percentage in 11 games while sharing duties with Casey DeSmith.

The Penguins called up Tristan Jarry from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to back up DeSmith. Jarry, 23, played 26 games last season for the Penguins. The Oilers acquired DChris Wideman from the Senators for a 2020 conditiona­l sixth-round draft pick. Wideman, 28, has two goals and three assists in 19 games this season. ... Nathan MacKinnon scored one of three power-play goals for the Avalanche, who dominated the Kings 7-3 on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Vladislav Kamenev and Colin Wilson also scored on the power play. Mikko Rantanen remained the league’s scoring leader with two assists to increase his total to 34 points. ... Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist, John Gibson made 25 saves and the Ducks snapped a three-game skid with a 4-3 victory over the Canucks on Wednesday night in Anaheim, Calif. It was the Canucks’ seventh straight loss.
